Ms. Loureen Awuor, KENAFF Project Officer, briefing Dr. Joseph Keying, CECM, Livestock, Veterinary and Cooperatives, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Implementing Silvopastoral Systems in the North Rift is a 2-year project (October 2021 – September 2023) climate adaptation initiative KENAFF is implementing in West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties. The project is under the aegis of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Small Grants Programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ and funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Project Development Goal is to strengthen the capacity and resilience of marginalized pastoral and agropastoral farmers to mitigate and adapt to climate change through improved land management using silvopastoral systems. Coincidentally, this project development goal resonates with the West Pokot County Integrated Development Plan for the period (2018 – 2022) and the constitutional mandate the County Government of West Pokot has to execute the agriculture, livestock, water, and environmental conservation at the county level.
