Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, commends KENAFF for their good work with farmers

Friday, December 2, 2022, Thogoto, Kikuyu. The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, has praised Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) for their good work with the farmers of Kenya.

Speaking during this year’s 76th KENAFF Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Thogoto, Kikuyu, Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mithika Linturi commended the federation’s resolve to contribute to climate action through the KENAFF Farm Forestry and Afforestation program (KENAFF FF&AP, 2021-2030) and their commitment to mobilize all Kenyan farmers from across the 47 counties to plant 10 billion trees over the next ten years.

Hon. Linturi spoke when he honored the Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) invitation to grace her 76th AGM.

The CS asked the farmers of Kenya to unite, assuring them that the government would stand by them and remain committed to them by meaningfully and sustainably transforming the country’s agri-food systems.

“To the farmers of Kenya, present in this 2022 KENAFF AGM and across the country, this is my commitment to you: the government is there for you and will always stand for and by you. This is the government that shall truly, meaningfully and sustainably transform our nation’s agri-food system and ensure all Kenyans are food and nutrition secure; free from hunger, have adequate food of acceptable quality and quantity,” Said Linturi.

The CS further lauded the federation, especially on her plan to sensitize, mobilize and train farmers on the importance of paying for health insurance. He assured the federation of his Ministry’s support even as the federation works to mobilize 500,000 farmers to pay for farmer-focused health insurance cover over the next 12 months.

Hon. Linturi said his Ministry would collaborate with KENAFF to realize the country’s national aspiration.

“With the level of harmony, the government through my office, is positive that collaboration with KENAFF shall be key in the realization of our national aspiration of, bringing down the cost of living, eradicating hunger, creating jobs, expanding the tax base, improving on foreign exchange balance and fostering inclusive growth,” Hon. Linturi said.

The AGM was attended by Programme Manager International, Andreas Hermes Akademie (AHA) Mr. Jan Pusdrowski, Center Director, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Africa Dr. Philip McOsana, KENAFF National Chairman, Prof. Kaburu M’Ribu, KENAFF Chief Executive Officer, Daniel M. M’Mailutha, Ph.D. among other guests who graced the event.
