Connecting, Transforming and Sustaining Livelihoods

Membership Structure

KENAFF draws its membership from four member categories namely; Self Help Farmer Groups (SHGs) also known as CIGs, Cooperative Societies, Commodity Associations and Farming Firms. As such KENAFF does not admit individuals as members but the different categories do.

Several SHGs with a minimum of 15 form a Ward Farmers Sub- Branch of the County Association at ward level. This then cascades upwards to form Sub-County branches and County Farmers’ Association (CFAs) at the Sub-county and County levels respectively. The CFAs are then registered by the Federation as members at the national level with delegates from various councils becoming members of the National Farmers’ Assembly (NFA) which is the highest decision making organ of the Federation.

For the cooperatives and farming firms, they join the Federation directly as individual cooperative societies or firms who then are represented by legally recognized representatives at the NFA.

On the other hand, Commodity Associations cascade upwards from sub-county level where several sub-counties with dully elected officials come together to form a County Commodity Association Branch which then cascades upwards to form the National Commodity Associations (NCAs). The NCAs then register with the Federation at the national level with their representatives being members to the NFA.

The registration and subscription fee for each category are as illustrated in the table:
