Connecting, Transforming and Sustaining Livelihoods

Innovations in Technology, Institutional and Extension Approaches towards Sustainable Agriculture and enhanced Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (InnovAfrica)

KENAFF is a member of a consortium comprising local and international organizations implementing the Innovations in Technology, Institutional and Extension Approaches towards Sustainable Agriculture and enhanced Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (InnovAfrica), a four year research project (2017-2021) supported by the EU  under the Horizon 2020 program. Along with KENAFF, other Kenyan partners include the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and the Biosciences eastern and central Africa (BecA—ILRI)

The project’s goal is to enhance the sustainable production, profitability and nutritional sufficiency for African smallholder farmers, while reducing associated negative environmental impacts. InnovAfrica plans to accomplish this through testing, integrating, and disseminating potential sustainable agriculture intensification (SAI) systems; applying institutional approaches such as Multi Actor Platforms (MAPs) and integrated seed delivery systems; and, promoting extension/advisory services such as dynamic knowledge platforms supported by smart phones and Village Knowledge centres(VKCs) in six countries of Africa. In Kenya, the project is testing and up-scaling the Bracharia grass innovation, MAPs and VKCs
