Bomet Potato Fair

The first of its kind Potato Fair wad held in Bomet County at the Bomet Green stadium on 9th April 2014. The theme was “Sustainable linkages for the potato value chain.”

Stakeholders were drawn from various sectors which included financial institution, NGOs, Agrochemical dealers, marketing agencies, seed multiplication farms, cooperatives as well as Government ministries. In attendance were USAID-KHCP, Farm Concern International, Syngenta, C-MAD, Africa Harvest, Oserian, Lachlan, Equity bank, Tenwek hospital- VCT, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Murphy chemicals, Kickstart money makers, Delights farm, Ndaraweta Potato Cooperative.

A total of 365 farmers were trained on various issues on potato value chain (Pre-production-Production-Post harvest handling-Marketing-). Various stakeholders show cased their prowess on various technologies in potato farming. The fair was a strategic platform to establish and enhance linkages amongst various actors in the potato value chain. On health matters, 65 farmers were able to access VCT services on the same day.

His Excellency The Deputy governor of Bomet who was the chief guest together with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries assured potato farmers of the support from the County Goverment and also promised to support Ndaraweta Potato Cooperative.
