Strengthening Farmer Organizations in Africa Program (SFOAP)

The project is supporting the implementation of interventions that seek to strengthen its member county associations of Nakuru, Kiambu and Narok as well as strengthening the Irish potato value chain.

Support:

IFAD, EU, AFC, SDC with EAFF as the fund manager

The project covers a period of 1 year December 2014- 2015

Scope:

It covers 3 counties namely; Nakuru, Narok and Kiambu

Objectives;

The overall objective is to deliver economic services to farmers and farmer organizations in ways that are effective, efficient and sustainable. The goal is to deliver these services through the farmer organizations, and their relevant structures.

The overall programme specific objectives includes

  • To strengthen FOs Institutional and Organizational capacities
  • To enable FOs at different levels to influence policies on priority subjects
  • To improve FOs entrepreneurial capacities and participation in value chains
  • To strengthen the capacity of the Pan-African Farmers’ Organizations to participate and influence policy processes on agriculture and rural development at continental and international levels

Expected results: The expected results from the project are:

  • improved performance of small-scale farmers with respect to increased incomes, increased production, increased productivity or access to new markets
  • selected farmer organizations have the capacity to effectively provide economic services for their members
  • Policy-related challenges affecting performance of farmer organizations have been addressed
  • The successes, best practices, challenges and failures of significant economic initiatives are capitalized and shared among members and partners
